EVANSTON, Ill.-Tyler Iwamura (R-So., San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christian HS) finished seventh
at 125 pounds at the 48th annual Midlands Open Dec. 30.
Iwamura defeated teammate Frank Lomas (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) 4-3 in the
consolation round of 16 at 125 pounds in the first match of the day involving
members of the Roadrunner program.
Iwamura took on Alan Waters of Missouri in the consolation quarterfinals. Walters
defeated Iwamura 3-0. Iwamura matched up against Matt Fusco of Rutgers for seventh place. Iwamura came
away with a 4-2 victory in overtime.
Riley
Orozco (R-Sr., 197, Fallon, Nev., Churchill County HS) had his tournament run
ended by Michigan State's Tyler Dickinson in the consolation round of 16. Dickinson defeated Orozco 7-6.
CSUB
finished 24th (16) in the team standings. Missouri was the team champion.
"This
tournament was very competitive and exposed some areas to focus on," said CSUB
Head Coach Mike Mendoza. "Tyler wrestled well and is improving with
every competition."
The
Roadrunners will send competitors to Sunday's Menlo Invitational in Atherton, Calif. The Menlo Invitational will start
at 9 a.m. (PST) and run throughout the day.
