?Runners Finish 2010 Season With a Tough Loss at Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. — Facing the Seattle RedHawks for the second time in an eight-day span, the CSUB Women's Soccer team dropped a tough 0-1 decision at Championship Field on Saturday to end its 2010 season.

The Roadrunners weathered a Seattle offensive storm in the first half, which saw the RedHawks take a total of seven shots and earn five corner kicks. The CSUB defense held strong however and junior goalkeeper Kym Gause (Manteca/Modesto JC) made two saves to keep the game scoreless going into halftime.

The momentum remained with Seattle in the second half however, as the RedHawks out shot the 'Runners by six shots to none. The RedHawks scored the game-winner in the 80th minute when Jacqui Wallis put away an unassisted goal.

CSUB finished with one shot on the day and earned a corner kick while Seattle finished with 13 shots and seven corners. Gause made five saves in net for the 'Runners.

With the loss, CSUB dropped to 4-9-5 to finish the 2010 season. Despite the tough ending, Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke is very optimistic about the group she has returning.

“We are taking steps in the right direction,” Van Dyke said. “This group deserved more wins but unfortunately we did not get them. We are a group that has always worked hard and we will continue to get better.”
