SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Freshman Chase Goodvin (Frontier HS) continued the torrid start to his
collegiate career by finishing second at the Bill Cullum Invitational, hosted
by Cal State Northridge at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
It
was the second top 10 finish in as many collegiate starts for Goodvin, who also
placed seventh at the Cal Poly Tournament earlier in October.
Goodvin
overcame an opening round 74 to card consecutive rounds of 69 en route to a
four-under 212 finish for the tournament. Only CSUN senior Nick Delio bettered
Goodvin's efforts, finishing at 208.
Thanks
to Goodvin's strong showing, CSUB placed fifth overall in the 15-team field at
883. UC Riverside won the team title by finishing seven over 871. San Jose
State (873), CSUN (880) and Portland (881) rounded out the top five.
In
addition to Goodvin, Kyle Morrison
and Jason Errecart tied for 30th
individually at 223. Morrison shot even par 72 in his final round while
Errecart's tournament began with consecutive rounds of 73.
The
Bill Cullum Invitation closes the fall portion of the 2010-11 CSUB men's golf
season. CSUB finished top five in both its fall outings, placing third at Cal
Poly in addition to this fifth place finish.
The Roadrunners will return to
action Feb. 14-15 when they host the CSUB Invitational at Seven Oaks Country
Club.
