NIPOMO, Calif. - Freshman Chase Goodvin (Frontier HS) made his first collegiate tournament a memorable one, firing a third round 68 Tuesday to lead the CSUB men's golf team to a third place finish at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational Tuesday at the Monarch Dunes Golf Course.

Goodvin's 68 equalled the second best round of the tournament by any golfer. UCLA's Mario Clemens (six–under 207) and North Dakota's Alex Robb (211) each carded 67s en route to first and second place finishes overall. Goodvin's 68 left him at four–over 217, good for seventh place.

“I'm very pleased with Chase's effort today and in the tournament,” says CSUB Head Coach Dave Barber. “When you consider that he's a freshman and has never played the course before, it was a real pleasant surprise. But he qualified No. 2 for us coming into the tournament and was one of the top local players coming out of high school, so I knew he had the ability.”

In addition to Goodvin, the Roadrunners got a top 20 finish from senior Kyle Morrison, who shot 73 for the second consecutive round Tuesday to finish tied for 13th overall at 220. Sophomore Matt Hammons (Highland HS) and junior Jason Errecart (Kerman HS) rounded out the CSUB top four by finishing tied for 26th.

As a team, CSUB finished third overall at 888, trailing only host Cal Poly's Gold team and the main Mustang squad, which finished first and second on their home course at 865 and 867.

Cal State Fullerton (891) and Seattle University (893) completed the top five in the team scoring.

The 'Runners return to action Oct. 25–26 when they travel to Wood Ranch Golf Course for the Cal State Northridge Tournament.
