Senior Day Brings Tough 1-0 OT Loss For Women

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The CSUB women's soccer team sent it seniors off with a hard fought performance ultimately ending in heartbreak Friday night as visiting Seattle University scored late in overtime to earn a 1–0 win on the CSUB Main Soccer Field.

Seattle struck the fatal blow in the 106th minute when Emma Levy turned the corner into the box on the right flank and put a pass on the foot of Carlee Norquist eight yards from goal. Alone and unfettered, Norquist easily notched her first goal of the season.

Both teams created chances, although neither goalkeeper was forced into much danger. CSUB's Kym Gause and Seattle's Madison Goverde were asked to make just two saves apiece. Seattle compiled a 14–6 shot advantage, with flurries early in the first half and late in regulation accounting for half its total.

Although the Roadrunners out–shot Seattle 4–1 through the first 42 minutes of the second half, their best chance came early when Sam Peña hit the right post with a chance to put CSUB up in the 14th minute.

CSUB heads to the coast to take on Big West Conference foe Cal Poly Sunday afternoon in San Luis Obispo. The 'Runners and Redhawks will meet again in Seattle Nov. 6 in the season finale for both squads.
