FULLERTON, Calif. – The 2010 CSU Bakersfield cross country team made its final tune–up before the NCAA Division I Regionals a good one, finishing third at the Titan Invitational on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
Senior Arianna Celis (Perris/Riverside CC) continues to lead the way for CSUB, finishing fifth overall in 17:40.0. The Roadrunners also got top 20 finishes from senior Casey Glassey (Loma Linda/Riverside CC) and sophomore Cecilia Lopez (North HS) who placed 16th and 18th respectively in 18:17.8 and 18:24.8.
“We finished third and got personal best 5K times from Ari, Cecilia and Monica Guzman,” says CSUB Head Coach Robert Boyles, “so obviously I'm very pleased with these results and where we are headed into regionals.”
Azusa Pacific took first place overall with 46 points. Loyola Marymount (80) finished second and CSUB (94) placed third. Cal Baptist (106), Cal State L.A. (108), USC (146) and UCLA (151) rounded out the top seven.
Without a conference championship meet in which to compete, this was the Roadrunners' final tune-up before heading to the NCAA Division I West Regionals in three weeks. It will be the first Division I regional appearance for the CSUB cross country program.
“Everything we've done has been about getting ready for Oregon and the regional,” says Boyles. “Since we don't have a conference, this was our meet to get ready and I think we are on track for where we need to be. This was a really, really good day for us.”
The 'Runners will head to Eugene, Ore. and the University of Oregon for the NCAA Division I regionals to be held Nov. 13. It will be CSUB's first NCAA postseason appearance since earning active Division I status earlier this summer.
