Aggies Hand Women?s Soccer First Home Loss

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -  UC Davis' Marisa Boge had a first half hat trick to lead the Aggies to a 5–0 win over the CSUB women's soccer team Friday evening on the Main Soccer Field. The loss was CSUB's first at home this season and moves the Roadrunners' record to 2–3–0 for the season. UC Davis improves to 2–0–1 on the year with the victory.

Boge scored in the 18th, 24th and 41st minutes, all three on breakaway chances after playing through balls. Rochelle VanBuskirk scored in the 33rd minute as the Aggies jumped out to a 4–0 halftime lead.

After the break, CSUB played solid defense but were unable to put a goal past the UC Davis defense. Alexis Knudtson scored for Davis in the 70th minute for the only strike of the second half. The Aggies held a 14–7 shot advantage but CSUB earned all four of the game's corner kicks. Junior Faith Perry (Glendora HS) had the Roadrunners' lone shot on goal. A high arcing shot in the second half that UCD keeper Kathleen Brandl almost misjudged before catching it on the goal line.

“This is a long season,” said Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke. “We are going to have our highs and our lows. I thought we really came out in the second half and competed well. We just made a couple of mistakes and they capitalized on them. We are going to regroup tomorrow and come ready to play on Sunday.”

Sophomore Kym Gause (Manteca/Modesto JC) made six saves in the first half before being relived by freshman Jessica Montaño (Placentia/El Dorado HS) in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Breanna Flores (Tulare/Tulare Union HS) made her first career start.

CSUB concludes its weekend homestand Sunday against the Cal Poly Mustangs at 7 p.m. on the Main Soccer Field. Cal Poly came back for a 2–1 victory in San Luis Obispo, Calif., against the Seattle University Redhawks Friday evening, moving the Mustangs to 1–2 for the season.
