MORAGA, Calif. - For the second consecutive match, sophomore
outside hitter Lindy DeGeare (Stockdale HS) collected nearly half of the kills for the
CSUB volleyball team. For the second consecutive match, that proved a bad omen
as the Roadrunners fell to NCAA Tournament hopeful Saint Mary's College 25-15,
25-19, 25-21 in McKeon Pavilion.
DeGeare
had 12 of CSUB's 25 kills, double the next closest Roadrunner. By the midway
point of the match, she had eight of the 12 Roadrunner kills.
As
the Roadrunners found more balance in the third set, they fought their way
back. CSUB raced to a 10-2 lead to open the set before the Gaels finally caught
them at 20-20. Saint Mary's scored five of the final six points to end the
upset bid.
In
addition to DeGeare, freshman outside hitter Tika Smith (Sweetwater,
Texas/SHS) had six kills.
Senior libero Kayla Williamson (Stockdale HS) added a match-high 18 digs.
The
Roadrunners will continue their Bay area swing of West Coast Conference
opponents when they face 2008 NCAA Tournament qualifier San Francisco Saturday
at 3 p.m.
