STOCKTON, Calif. - After posting a pair of big comeback wins
earlier in the season, the CSUB Volleyball team let one slip through its
fingers Saturday, surrendering a 2-0 lead to the University of Nevada in a
22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-5 loss to the Wolfpack at the Stockton Hilton
Invitational.
CSUB
(7-8 overall) built early leads in the first two sets then held on down the
stretch to open the big lead. But Nevada broke open the third set late to stay
alive, snapped a 22-22 tie in the fourth to force the deciding set, then raced
to a 7-1 lead in the fifth to win going away.
The
Roadrunners got a career-high 27 kills from sophomore outside hitter Lindy
DeGeare (Stockdale HS), but
she was the lone ranger of the CSUB attack Saturday, accounting for nearly half
of the team's 58 kills. Senior setter Barbie Unfried (Bakersfield HS) chipped in 46 assists, 15 digs and three
aces while libero Kayla Williamson (Stockdale HS) had 29 digs to go along with a pair of
aces.
The
Roadrunners will head back to Northern California next weekend to finish their
17-match, season-opening road trip at Saint Mary's College and the University
of San Francisco. They'll make their home season debut against Big West
Conference rival Cal State Northridge Sept. 30.
