New Mexico Hands Roadrunners First Defeat

LAS VEGAS - The CSUB women's soccer team was defeated by the New Mexico Lobos Friday evening, 2–0, at the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas. The loss was the Roadrunners' first of the year (2–1), while the Lobos improved to 2–0 on the year. CSUB was unable to get on the board for just the first time in the last six contests, dating back to last season. UNM held a 21–11 shot advantage for the afternoon.

New Mexico scored its first goal in the 36th minute of play as Jordan Craig scored. Alexis Ball was credited with the assist. In the second half, the Lobos' Rachel Fields found a loose ball in the six yard box and converted, giving New Mexico a 2–0 lead.

Junior defender Tara Corcoran (La Verne/Cerritos College) led the 'Runners with four total shots while both of sophomore Kassi Massey's (Bakersfield/Stockdale HS) shots were on goal. Sophomore Kym Gause (Manteca/Modesto JC) had six saves in net.

“After coming off such a big win last weekend, we had to come out strong and keep the momentum going,” Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke said after the match. “Unfortunately, we were unable to do that and we let New Mexico's athleticism get the best of us today. A credit to the Lobos, they were the first to every ball today. We just have to regroup and get ready to play like we know we can on Sunday.”

CSUB will look to rebound on Sunday as the 'Runners take on host UNLV at 1 p.m. to conclude the tournament.
