SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The CSUB men's golf team finished in a tie for third place on Tuesday at the Drake University Invitational, the team's first event of the spring season, at Carlton Oaks Country Club in San Diego, Calif. Western Illinois Univeristy won the event with a combined team score of 596 followed by host Drake with a 599. The ?Runners trailed the Bulldogs by just one shot, carding a total of 600. The event was shortened to just 36 holes after play was suspended on Monday due to rain.

The ?Runners were led by senior Adam Frey who fired rounds of 73 and 74 to finish in a tie for sixth place overall. Jason Errecart had a two shot improvement in the second round, improving on Monday's 75 with a 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for eighth. James Moseley and Nick Baratelle each shot 76 on Tuesday to finish 12th and 18th, respectively. Richie Kernagis shot a 77 to finish in a tie for 25th. Kyle Morrison, who played the event as an individual, shot a 78 in the final round to finish tied ofr 46th.

“I was really happy with our performances today,” Head Coach Dave Barber said. “These were the toughest conditions we have seen all year. Our guys really played well and we hope to carry that over into next week when we host our home invitational.”

On Sunday, the ?Runners dropped a dual to Cal Poly, 371-386, at Carlton Oaks CC. Kernagis carded the low round of 75 for CSUB. The ?Runners would beat Cal Poly in the Drake Invitational by 11 shots.

The ?Runners will return to action beginning on Monday, Feb. 23 as they host the Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate at Bakersfield's Seven Oaks Country Club. Play will begin at 7:30 a.m.
