BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? After a slow start, the CSUB wrestling team reeled off six consecutive victories in a 30-12 win over San Francisco State Sunday in the Icardo Center. The Roadrunners finish the dual portion of the season with a 10-5 overall record.
San Francisco State's Joauin Carlos and Markham Bertron picked up early wins at 149 and 157 to give the Gators a 9-0 advantage. But CSUB's Joey Granata earned a 21-6 technical fall at 165 and Jason Points followed with a 15-0 technical fall at 174 to give CSUB a 10-9 advantage.
The ?Runners never relinquished the lead from that point as Riley Orozco picked up a 10-4 decision over Marques Gales at 184 for a third straight CSUB win. No. 7 nationally ranked Brandon Halsey and No. 6 Mitch Monteiro dominated their opponents at 197 and heavyweight, respectively, each earning a major decision.
At 125, Frank Lomas decisioned Pierre Bondock, 9-5, and at 141, sophomore Elijah Nacita earned his 30th win of the season with a 29-second fall of Ben Lockett to end the meet.
Next up for the Roadrunners is the Pac-10 Championships, held Mar. 1-2 at Cal State Fullerton. Finishes at the conference championships will determine berths in the 2009 NCAA National Championships, held Mar. 19-21 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
