RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Everything that could have gone wrong for the CSUB men's basketball team did and everything that could have gone right for UC Riverside did as well Wednesday night. The confluence of circumstances led to an 87-47 UCR win at the UCR Student Rec Center.
CSUB got its share of good looks but couldn't throw it in the ocean Wednesday, shooting just 3-for-25 (12 percent) from the field in the first half and 4-of-9 from the line. Riverside, meanwhile, was red hot, shooting a season-best 52 percent from the field, 100 points better than its percentage coming in of 41.9.
On the plus side, CSUB got a game-high 19 points from senior forward Trent Blakley (Alta Loma HS), making him the 11th player in CSUB history to score more than 900 points (906). He needs 15 more to catch Reggie Phillips for 10th on CSUB's career scoring list.
The Roadrunners also got a solid effort from senior center Jose Lara (Santa Paula/College of the Sequoias), who grabbed a career-high eight rebounds, including six off the offensive glass.
CSUB (1-4 overall) will try to regroup the hard way Sunday, traveling to Oregon to face Pac-10 Conference foe Oregon State at 2 p.m.
