SPOKANE, Wash. - The CSUB women's soccer team fell to the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Spokane. The loss moves the Roadrunners' record back to 3-3-0 while the Bulldogs improve to 3-2-0.
The Roadrunners knew they were in for an uphill battle with starting goalkeeper Marina Constantinou out for the contest. Filling in for Constantinou was sophomore Briana Estolano who performed well, making two saves on the afternoon. Gonzaga's Lauren Ames made three stops.
The game's only goal came in the 30th minute as the Bulldog's Sheridan Jones scored in the 30th minute on a pass from Courtney Peacock. The Roadrunner's defense kept the game close and despite being outshot, 9-5, CSUB matched the Bulldog's three shots on goal.
"Estolano did a great job in the net today and made on save that kept us in the game," Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke said. "All in all, it was a very positive weekend for us. A few players stepped up and had great games this weekend."
CSUB returns to Bakersfield for a weekend homestand beginning on Friday as the 'Runners take on Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m. The Toreros of San Diego visit the Main Soccer Field on Sunday at 6 p.m.
