SACRAMENTO ? Jenna Barnett shattered her own CSUB 54?hole tournament record, finishing with 244 at the NCAA West Region Preview Tournament Tuesday on the Lincoln Hills Orchard Course in Sacramento.
Barnett opened the tournament by carding a team?season low 78 Monday. It was the second?lowest round in Roadrunner women's golf history and just two shots off Meggan Bellows' school record 76 set last season. It is one stroke better than Barnett's collegiate best of 79 set Oct. 2 at the Cal Poly Lampkin Cup.
Barnett followed her strong opening round with matching 83's to close the tournament at 244. She beat her own school record of 255 set at the Mauna Lani Intercollegiate in October.
Sophomore Meggan Bellows and freshman Jennifer Beggs finished at 256, a personal best for both and the third?best 54?hole tournaments ever by Roadrunner women's golfers.
The NCAA West Region Preview was the only chance for Division I teams from the west region to play the Lincoln Hills course before Sacramento State hosts the NCAA West Regional Championship in May. Thus, it featured a strong field with four of the nation's top 50 teams in attendance.
No. 12 ranked Denver won going away at 12?over 876. Oregon placed second at 900 while Fresno State was the show horse at 904. Washington State's Amy Eneroth took medalist honors at even par 216.
CSUB finished 19th overall at 1,027. That mark broke the school 54?hole record of 1,038 set at the Mauna Lani Intercollegiate earlier this season.
