Portland Win Inaugural Elco Women's Title

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? The University of Portland recorded the low round for the second consecutive day to walk away with the inaugural Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate women's golf title Tuesday at Bakersfield Country Club.

Scores were up across the board, but UP's 326 still beat the field. The Pilots finished the 36?hole tournament at 644 on the 6,200 yard, par 74 course.

Cal State Northridge finished second, shooting 334 Tuesday to end 12 strokes back at 656. Northern Colorado, one of one two schools to improve in the final round, finished third at 657.

The other school to go lower Tuesday was host CSUB, which followed up a 355 in the opening round with a 346. It was the eighth?lowest round in the brief one?plus season history of Roadrunner women's golf.

CSUN's Ashlee Nagamine overcame a two?stroke deficit to win medalist honors. Her 79 matched Tuesday's second?lowest round and kept her one stroke better than Taryn Kuida of Portland. Melissa Core of the University of British Columbia carded Tuesday's low round of 76 to climb into a tie for third place with Portland's Kalyn Dodge, the first?round leader.

CSUB's Jenna Barnett followed Monday's 82 with an 84 Tuesday to tie for 14th place at 18?over 166. She was the only Roadrunner to crack the top 20.
