BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? The CSUB men's swim team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 110.5?93.5 dual win over visiting Seattle University Saturday at the Hillman Aquatics Center.
Senior Henry Holmberg led the Roadrunners for the second consecutive outing, winning the 1000 free in 9:40.77, the 500 free in 4:34.91 and the 200 free in 1:42.60.
“Henry was a stud today,” said CSUB Head Coach Chris Hansen. “His 200 and 500 times put him among the best in Division I swimming.”
Along with Holmberg's triple victory, Bakersfield also got a solid performance from senior Thomas Peart, who claimed the 100 fly in a time of 52.08. CSUB swept the top three spots in the event with Rene Hjorth and Sampo Sissala coming in second and third, respectively.
Luka Leskur and Michael Schwartz went one-two in the 100 back and Griffin Bracke claimed a second place finish in the 100 breast.
CSUB's 200 medley relay team of Leskur, Bracke, Hjorth and Malcolm Reid pulled away for a 1:36.15 first place finish, narrowly holding off the Redhawks who touched the wall at 1:36.46.
“We are pumped to have started the season 3-0,” said Hansen. “Seattle's a great team so this was a big win, and we're excited to head down to San Diego tomorrow.”
Bakersfield faces off against UC San Diego in La Jolla at noon Sunday. The ?Runners make their return to the Hillman Aquatics Center Jan. 3 against Cal Poly.
