SEATTLE, Wash.
- The CSUB women's soccer team's season came to an end on Halloween
afternoon as the Roadrunners fell to the Seattle University Redhawks, 3-1, on
Championship Field. The ?Runners finished their season with a 5-13-1 record while the Redhawks
improved to 10-4-3.
The wet field conditions played towards the strength of the
home team as the pace of the game was slowed by standing water and mud.
Seattle got an
early chance in the third minute of play as Kahlyn Keilty-Lucas got past the
?Runner defense for a one-on-one opportunity against freshman keeper Marina Constantinou. Constantinou read the play and made a diving save to her left to
keep the score tied at 0-0.
The Redhawks forced Constantinou into another early save as
Jamie Coe broke free but was denied by the first year keeper in the box.
Kara Kuttler however found the back of the net in the 20th
minute as Constantinou dove to break up a crossing pass from Coe. The deflected
ball bounced back across the box to Kuttler who tapped the ball past senior
Jackie Torvestad who tried to defend the goal with Constantiou on the turf.
Pfeiffer Bloecker tested the CSUB defense again late in the
half but Constantinou made a great save, punching the ball up over the crossbar.
Freshman Kassi Massey got the Roadrunners on the board after Alexa
Vickroy earned a free kick ten yards outside the Redhawk box in the 39th minute.
The Bakersfield native struck a low
running ball that beat Seattle
keeper Madison Goverde to the right side of the net for her team-leading fourth
goal of the season.
Madison Collins gave the Redhawks the lead in the second
half as she headed a free kick from Kuttler into the right side of the net in
the 77th minute. Collins returned the favor 80th minute as she found Coe in the
front of the goal, who headed it past Constantinou, extending the Seattle
lead to 3-1.
Constantinou finished the game with six saves while Goverde
had one save for Seattle. Massey had two of the three CSUB shots on the day.
This completes the 2008 CSUB Roadrunner women's soccer
schedule. The ?Runners will return to action in 2009.
