For the third time in five matches this season, the CSUB men's soccer team took the field against a team with national title aspirations Monday night when the Roadrunners travelled to meet No. 20 UC Irvine. But after a solid opening half, Bakersfield couldn't pull off its second major upset of the season, falling 3?0 at Anteater Stadium.

CSUB (2?2?1 overall) out?shot UCI (3?0?0) 6?5 and earned five corner kicks to three for the Anteaters in the first half. But UCI converted a 28th minute corner kick into a 1?0 halftime lead. UCI then took control in the second half, scoring a pair of late goals thanks to a 13?2 shooting advantage in the period to put the match on ice.

Bakersfield returns to action Saturday when it concludes a three?match roadtrip at San Diego State. The Roadrunners return home to face The Master's College Sept. 18.
