AZUSA, Calif. — Peace Nwosu had a personal best in the high jump to lead a strong performance by Cal State Bakersfield at the Azusa Pacific Invitational in Azusa, Calif., on Friday.
Nwosu's jump of 5-5 not only was a personal best in the high jump, but it was also good enough to move her into a tie for No. 8 on the all-time list in Cal State Bakersfield history. She joins current Roadrunner teammate Grace McClellan on that list in a tie for eighth place.
Nwosu was one of many Roadrunners to set personal bests on Friday. But the other top women's performance did not come on a personal best, but instead it was Alyssa Lewis' second-fastest run in the 3,000 steeplechase. Her time of 11:22.76 placed her fifth in the impressive field and it was the second-fastest time in Roadrunner history behind her own school record set last weekend.
On the men's side, sophomore Ryan Lucker had a huge day in the distance events, running his way to a pair of personal bests. He finished in 1:57.31 in the 800 meters and 4:03.36 in the 1,500. His 800 time is 20th best all-time at Bakersfield while his 1,500 meter time was 15th best in Roadrunner history.
Also in the hammer throw, Nick Umholtz was third in 193-0 while teammate Evan Wahl threw a personal-best 162-10 in the event. Former Roadrunner Arnaldo Cueto placed first in the event at 203-11.
Bakersfield will head to the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday and Sunday.
