COMING UP THIS WEEK: Tournament action continues this week for the Roadrunners as they head back to Nevada, this time for the single-day Reno Tournament of Champions. This is the third tournament for most of the CSUB squad, which will be looking to add to its four-year streak of top 10 finishes in Reno. After a somewhat disappointing showing at the Las Vegas Invitational, the Roadrunner coaching staff shook up its lineup, and added a second competitor in the 133, 157 and 197 divisions. With the campus curently on winter break, CSUB has taken full advantage of the practice and team bonding time in preparation for Tuesday's competition.

LAST WEEK: While the field at the Last Vegas Invitational was strong, the Roadrunners were still a bit disappointed with their final result: a 30th place team finish and no placewinners. After many early-round wins, CSUB wrestlers faced seven opponents ranked in the top 20 and could not pick up an upset win as only junior Daniel Atondo (165) advanced to the second day of competition.

PAC-10 PREVIEW: With eight of the 10 Pac-10 squads competing at the Reno TOC this week, there are sure to be a number of match-ups between conference members. While 14 wrestlers are currently ranked in in their respective divisions' top 20 (by InterMat/NWMA/NWCA), the first official Pac-10 rankings have yet to be released, so outcomes from this week's tournament should prove vital to the first official poll, as well as the seeding for the Pac-10 Championships.

PIN FOR A WIN: Through 200 matches the Roadrunners have earned 38 of their 122 wins by virtue of a pin. Leading the way in that statistical category are freshmen Kiyoshi Kawano (125), Elijah Nacita (141) and Joey Granata (157) and sophomore Daniel Montanez (174), each with three pins. However, the ?Runners fastest pin to date (23 seconds) came by the hands of freshman Justin Durham (125). Just three tournaments into the season, the 2007 squad is well ahead of last years' team which posted 61 victories by pin in 518 total matches.

LINEUP CHANGES: Following an overall subpar performance at the Las Vegas Invite, six new faces have been inserted into the lineup for the Reno TOC. Junior Zack Bigboy earned the nod at 125 while both sophomore John Cardenas and freshman Justin Durham will compete at 133. After opening his collegiate career with five straight wins, redshirt freshman Joey Granata joins Trevor Hall at 157 while Troy Goodban earned the st?art at 174. Senior Ernesto Ancona will compete for the first time this season at 197. While the lineup at Las Vegas featured seven upperclassmen and three freshmen, this week six freshmen, one sophomore, six upperclassmen will take to the mats.

KERR NEARING 400 CAREER WINS: Head Coach T.J. Kerr enters the 2007-08 season with a 35-year career record of 395-197-7. With a dozen dual meets on the this season's schedule, Kerr needs wins in just five of those to reach 400 career victories. Now in his 24th season at the helm of the Roadrunner program, Kerr also owns a 213-127-4 record at CSUB.

UP NEXT: Following a brief holiday break, a fourth consecutive tournament is on-deck for the Roadrunner squad. CSUB will make the long trip across the country to Greensboro, N.C., for the Southern Scuffle hosted by UNC-Greensboro on Dec. 29 and 30. Twenty-four squads return from last year's tournament, including 2007 NCAA team champion and Souther Scuffle runner-up Minnesota. Two Pac-10 teams will be in attendance: CSUB and Boise State.
