Volleyball Falls At Big West Leader Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. ? The CSUB volleyball team finished its regular season schedule with a 30?12, 30?17, 30?24 loss to Big West Conference leader and No. 30 ranked Long Beach State Friday night at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach.

Junior outside hitter Sarah Norman (Stockdale HS) led the Roadrunners with 16 kills, but that proved to be exactly half of CSUB's (6?19 overall) team total for the match.

“They were bigger than (No. 3 ranked) Texas and as athletic as any team we faced this season,” said CSUB Head Coach John Price. “As with all of the ranked teams we faced this season, it took us a while to get into the match, but once we did we were able to hang with a very good team.”

Long Beach was Bakersfield fifth different nationally?ranked opponent this season.

The 49ers (17?6) pulled away early to win games one and two. But the Roadrunners fought back in game three. CSUB built a 15?12 lead before a 5?1 run finally put Long Beach in front. The 'Runners stayed close, however, and had a swing to get within 26?24 before the 49ers finally pulled away for the win.

Alexis Crimes led the Long Beach with 17 kills and a whopping .696 attack percentage. Libero Talaya Whitfield added a match?high 16 digs while Michaela Hasalikova contributed to six of Long Beach's 10 total blocks in the match.
