SAN DIEGO ? CSUB's women's soccer team held No. 19 nationally ranked University of San Diego to just three shots and one goal over the final 45-minutes of play, but series of first-half goals by the Toreros resulted in a 5-0 loss for the Roadrunners Friday night.

The 'Runners defense gave up just seven shots in the first half, but the Toreros, now 8-1-2 overall, made the most of their opportunities, converting on four occasions.

"We played so well and so hard, but this was the best team we've played all year and every time we made a poor decision they made us pay," said CSUB Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke.

In the sixth minute of play, Ashleigh Shoughro tallied USD's first goal on an assist by Erika Wesley. Eight minutes later Amy Epsten took a pass from Leigh Ann Robinson and made it a 2-0 lead with a shot inside the box.

Robinson finished the job herself in the 31st minute of play, carrying the ball down the left flank, then curling it back into the net past CSUB keeper Jessica Padilla. Tara Hudgson rounded out the first-half scoring with a high lofting shot from the top of the box.

CSUB nearly kept the Toreros off the scoreboard in the second half, but a header by Jessica Larrabee with just two minutes remaining resulted in a fifth goal for the home team.

Briana Estolano was the most threatening Roadrunner with three shots, all on goal. For the match, CSUB was outshot by a narrow 10-7 margin.

"We won every 50-50 ball and kept fighting to get a goal," said Van Dyke. "I'm proud of the way we played."

Bakersfield (2-8-1 overall) concludes its five-match road swing Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. match-up against San Diego State. The ?Runners then return to their home turf on Oct. 12 to host Houston Baptist.
