BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? A pair of late first-half goals by Natalie Haigh and Jackie Torvestad held strong as the Roadrunners' women's soccer team claimed a 2-0 win over Biola University Friday night on the CSUB Main Soccer Field.
The win, the second in their last three outings, moved the ?Runners to 4-10-1 on the season while the Eagles fell to 3-10-2 overall.
CSUB dominated possession and spent most of the game in the Eagles' end of the field, getting off 13 total shots, seven on goal.
Haigh netted her second goal of the season in the 32nd minute of play to give the ?Runners a 1-0 lead. Torvestad carried the ball down the left flank and along the endline towards the goal before chipping a pass across the goalmouth. Haigh rushed onto the ball and used her head to knock it into the net.
With just 15 seconds remaining in the half, CSUB pressed forward again when a shot by Samantha David deflected off the crossbar back into play and was headed into the net by Torvestad.
Finishing the first half with 11 shots, CSUB kept the pressure on in the second period, but managed just two shots. For the game, Biola had just two shots, one on goal, and never really threatened the Roadrunners' defense.
CSUB continues its current homestand on Wednesday, hosting Westmont College at 7 p.m. on the Main Soccer Field.
