SANTA CRUZ, Calif. The Cal State Bakersfield mens and womens swim teams had little trouble downing NCAA Division III foe UC Santa Cruz in a double dual Saturday afternoon in Santa Cruz.
The Roadrunner women took an easy 174107 victory over the Banana Slugs, winning 14 of the 15 events, while the men swam to a 23359 win, sweeping all 15.
On the womens side, six swimmers each won two events, led by sophomore Ashley Gruda, who touched first in the 100 and 200 butterfly. Grudas time of 2:09.33 in the 200 earned her a provincial time for the NCAA Division II national championship.
Sophomore Erin Craft won both the 100 and 200 backstroke events while senior diver Laura Lafranchise swept the 1meter and 3meter board events to lead CS Bakersfield.
The Roadrunner men spread the winnings as 12 individuals won at least one event on the afternoon. Freshman Alexey Belyy won the 200 and 500 free in times of 1:47.04 and 4:47.83, respectively.
Sophomore Mansoor AlMansoor added another automatic qualifying mark to his impressive resume as he won the 1,000 free in a time of 9:42.68.
The Cal State Bakersfield swim teams return to the Hillman Aquatics Center for a home dual against NCAA Division I foe UC Davis on Saturday at 1 p.m.
