Fabiana Abreu joined the Roadrunner coaching staff in April of 2007 after a five–year stint at NCAA Division I member Texas–Pan American. She spent the first three years as an assistant coach for the Broncs and her last two as UTPA’s associate head coach.

Abreu is involved in all facets of the Roadrunner volleyball program. In addition to technical instruction and game–day duties, she assists with recruiting, scouting and youth camps as well as other administrative responsibilities.

At UTPA, Abreu mentored some of the top players in Bronc history. In addition to setting school match, season and career records, four players under her tutelage went on to earn NCAA Division I All–Independent honors in the last three seasons.

Abreu began her coaching career as a student–assistant at the University of Iowa after playing two seasons with the Hawkeyes. As a student–athlete, she was an integral component in the team’s success, earning a variety of awards. She garnered Most Valuable Player laurels at the University of Iowa Tournament and earned a selection to the University of Hawaii All–Tournament Team. During her tenure, she was awarded with Big Ten Co–Player of the Week honors.

Abreu put together one of the most storied junior college careers ever at the College of Southern Idaho. She was the cornerstone of the program in each of her two seasons, guiding the Golden Eagles to the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship as a freshman.

In two seasons at CSI, Abreu recorded 954 kills and a career hitting percentage of .407 en route to earning a selection to the NJCAA Women’s Volleyball Team of the Century.

Abreu earned a pair of NJCAA National Player of the Year awards while becoming a two-time NJCAA first team All–American selection. She also stacked her trophy case with a pair of Scenic West All–Region team laurels, two NJCAA All–Tournament Most Valuable Player accolades, two NJCAA All-Tournament Team nods and two Region 18 All–Tournament Team awards.

Prior to her collegiate career, Abreu was a standout player for the Brazilian National Team, with whom she traveled all around the world competing and dominating the best competition. She earned Best Hitter recognition at both the South American and World Championships, and picked up All–Tournament laurels at the World Championships in 1997.

Abreu earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Iowa in 2002.
