Biography

2006: Eric Parker continued to wrestle well for CSUB and just missed out on a bid to the NCAA tournament for the third straight season…his efforts have already placed him among the elite at CSUB and he still has another year of competition to go…tied for CSUB’s team lead in wins for the 2006 season with 25…currently sits in a tie for 46th on CSUB’s career wins list…a 27-win senior season would place him in the top 20…opened 2006 strong with a fifth-place finish at the California Open while taking losses only to the eventual second and fourth place finishers…missed becoming a placewinner at the Las Vegas Invitational by one match…was impressive throughout after losing in the first round and had to work his way through the consolation bracket before falling just short of placewinner honors…proceeded to miss out on placewinner honors at the Reno Tournament of Champions by one match as well…lost to Arizona State’s eventual All-American Cain Velasquez in the first round and again worked his way through the consolations before falling just short…first-round tournament losses continued to haunt him with a narrow 6-5 loss to No. 3 seed Dustin Fox of Northwestern at the Midlands and followed with a pair of wins before being eliminated…wrestled in 10 straight duals after that and went 7-3 including an impressive 22-7 win over Cal Poly’s Arturo Basulto…placed second at the California Collegiate Invitational…reached the semifinals of the Pac-10 Championships with a 16-1 win over Oregon’s Chris Dearman and ended up with a fourth-place finish which just left him short of a bid to the NCAA tournament.

2005: Parker had another strong season at heavyweight in 2005, wrestling to a 22-18 record… placed sixth at the Pac-10 Championships, going 2-3…was 12-8 in duals with three pins and two major decisions…finished in fourth place at the Fullerton Open after winning four straight matches following an opening round loss…put together a 7-1 midseason stretch which included two of his biggest wins of the season…defeated Allen Kennett of Portland State 12-11 after being down 11-5 to start the third period…later that afternoon, he surprised No. 11 Cody Parker of Oregon by pinning the eventual Pac-10 champ 44 seconds into the second period…was 4-4 in Pac-10 duals, though he went 12-8 against all Pac-10 opponents.

2004: Parker responded marvelously after being thrown into the heavyweight class as a freshman in 2004…just missed out on a bid to the NCAA tournament, finishing fifth at the Pac-10 Championships…won three of five matches at the Pac-10s including a major decision in the second round and narrow 3-2 victory to secure fifth place…recorded an overall mark of 15-18 including an 11-10 record against Pac-10 opponents and was 6-7 in dual meets…struggled to adjust to full-time duties, starting the season 4-9 but finished by winning 11 of his final 20 matches.

2003: Parker redshirted at CSUB in 2003.

RAMONA HS: Parker was a member of the Ramona HS wrestling squad that won three consecutive Valley League championships (2000-02)…the Bulldogs went on to win the CIF San Diego Section Division III title in 2002…individually, Parker was a two-time Valley League and CIF San Diego Section Division III champion…won the San Diego Section Master’s title as a senior to back up his second-place finish as a junior…was a two-time All-Valley League selection at offensive guard for Ramona earning all-county honors as a senior.

PERSONAL: Major is history at Bakersfield…plans to teach history and coach football and wrestling after graduation…an honors student at CSUB, Parker received first-team Pac-10 all-academic honors from 2004-06...Co-President of CSUB’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee in 2006-07…father is Bruce Parker.
