Roberto Vargas returns for his second season on the Roadrunner wrestling coaching staff after an impressive four-year career with Cal State Bakersfield.

Vargas posted a 55-45 overall record at CSUB and earned a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2005 after a finishing fifth in an extremely tough 141-pound weight class at the Pac-10 Championships.

During that senior season of 2005, Vargas recorded an overall record of 16-12 including an impressive 9-3 record against Pac-10 competition. Vargas also earned bonus points for his team in six of his 16 wins with two pins, one technical fall and three major decisions.

He had plenty of success in tournaments during his senior season with a fourth-place finish at the Reno Tournament of Champions followed by a second place at the All-California Open before his fifth-place performance at the Pac-10 Championships. Both his losses at the Pac-10s were by narrow 3-1 margins.

Vargas assists in a number of areas including helping with the CSUB wrestling camps, strength training and film analysis in addition to daily workouts.
