    Volunteer Coach

Cecily Lew is entering her third year as a volunteer assistant coach for CSU Bakersfield in fall of 2015. Lew will coach her second season with the cross country team before assisting with the Roadrunner distance runners on the track team this spring.

A California native, Lew grew up in Vacaville and was a four-year letter winner in both cross country and track in high school. After being named the 2002 Northern California Freshman Runner of the Year, Lew went on to become team MVP six times in her career (twice for track and four times for cross country). Her talent earned her a spot on an elite running club, the Buffalo Chips which took first at the National Jr. Olympic Championships three times.

Lew was recruited to race for BYU’s cross country and track teams and competed al four years in both. The highlight of Lew’s cross country career came in her junior year in which she was given All-American status after finishing tenth at the NCAA Championships. That same year, she was named the Mountain West Conference Women’s Athlete of the Year.

Her junior year as a distance runner on the track team was just as successful as Lew took top three finishes at multiple races. After winning the 5000m MWC Championships with a time of 17:37.11, Lew went on to take second place in the 10000m at the NCAA Outdoor National Champions. This performance earned her another All-American honor and Lew finished her career for the Cougars as a two-time MWC Champion and four time All-MWC honoree.
