Christine Hipa joined the CSU Bakersfield softball coaching staff in summer of 2021 as an Assistant Coach. She will work with the Roadrunner hitters and infielders.
One of the more decorated student-athletes in Bakersfield's Division I softball history, Hipa graduated from CSUB in 2019. After earning a degree in business administration, Hipa began her coaching career as an Assistant Coach for Taft College. Under Head Coach Gabrielle Brixey, Hipa helped the Cougars through a pair of tumultuous seasons amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, carefully navigating the associated mental and physical challenges.
A four-year starter for the CSUB softball team, Hipa completed a storied career in 2019. The versatile utility player saw time at several positions over the course of her career, filling in the gaps wherever Head Coach Crissy Buck-Ziegler needed a steady glove.
Hipa began her career on a high note, helping the `Runners win the 2016 Western Athletic Conference Softball Tournament and make the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level. Over the next three years, Hipa cemented her name in the CSUB record book with several Top 5 rankings among the program’s DI career leaders: assists (364, 1st), home runs (15, 3rd), total bases (209, 4th), slugging percentage (.429, 4th), and triples (5, 5th).
While playing 176 games in her `Runner career, Hipa took home a First Team All-Conference nod in 2017. Also a strong student, she earned Academic All-Conference honors all four seasons.
A native of Aiea, Hawai’i, Hipa now lives in Bakersfield.
