Mitchell Huxhold begins his first season as a student assistant coach for CSU Bakersfield’s swimming and diving teams in fall of 2015. Huxhold will assist Director of Swimming Chris Hansen and Assistant Coach Fran Cverle.

Huxhold wrapped up a four-year career with the CSUB men’s swim team after the 2014-15 season. The native of Escondido, Calif. concluded his time with the Roadrunners as one of the most prolific performers in CSUB history. Huxhold left the program holding four school records (200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free) and was in the CSUB Top 5 in four more events (100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay).

Huxhold did not merely stand out in the ‘Runner program; he also made waves at the conference and national levels. In each of his last two seasons, Huxhold qualified for the NCAA Championships and he earned All-American status in the 1650 freestyle at the 2013-14 Championships.

For his performance in the 2013-14 season, Huxhold became the first Roadrunner to be honored with the Western Athletic Conference’s Joe Kearney Award, given to the top male and female student-athlete in the conference among all sports. He also earned WAC Swimmer of the Year in 2013-14, MPSF Freshman of the Year in 2011-12, and won six individual conference titles during his career.

Huxhold is completing his degree in engineering during the 2015-16 academic year while coaching the ‘Runners.
