Gabe Woodward begins his season as an assistant coach for the Roadrunner men’s swimming program in 2008-09.

A Bakersfield native, Woodward swam for USC from 1998-01, where he was a five-time All-American and still holds school records in the 50 meter and 100 meter short course freestyle events. He was also a member of the 400 meter short course freestyle and 400 meter short course medley relay teams in 2000, which both hold the top spot in the Trojan record book.

On the international level, Woodward was a two-time medalist (one silver and one bronze) at the 1997 Pan America Games and four-time gold medalist at the 1999 World University Games. As a member of the U.S. 400 meter freestyle relay team, Woodward went on to win a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. In the summer of 2008, he earned an eighth place finish in the 100 meter freestyle at the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials

Woodward and his wife Staci reside in Bakersfield with their young daughter Reese and son Hudson.
