Education Day

This webpage is meant to help centralize Education Day information and answer potential questions school administrators may have.

What is an Education Day?
Each year since 2015, CSUB has invited local/regional schools and educational institutions to attend "Education Day" to help increase students' exposure to CSUB as a university, increase their engagement with CSUB athletics, and to reward their hard work and dedication in the classroom. To date, we've had Education Days at Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Men's Soccer, Volleyball, and Baseball (as many as five per year!). We look forwarding to offering this opportunity for years to come.

How much does it cost to attend?
Education Days tickets are made available to schools at a group discount. The exact price per ticket (at the group discount) may vary from sport to sport or year to year. Tickets for these events may also be sponsored from time to time, either by schools finding sponsors on their end for their school/district, or there may be times CSUB finds overarching sponsors for the event and make tickets available at no cost to the schools. Make sure to read any information presented each time an Education Day is announced to determine what the structure may be. Schools will be billed for their tickets based on the most recent RSVP headcount they have communicated to CSUB, not based on the actual day-of on-the-ground headcount. Additionally, each group must arrange transportation on their own, and are responsible for making their own food and drink arrangements if they so choose. Schools grades K-12 may participate.

May I share this opportunity with other leaders at my school or people I know at other schools?
Absolutely. We want as many people & schools as possible to know about this opportunity... and for all our Education Days to sell out! Feel free to forward the promotional emails you receive to other individuals within the local educational sector. Additionally, if you end up RSVPing your group/school for the event and have follow-up communication with our reps, make sure to copy all appropriate internal contacts onto the emails - especially individuals who will serve as chaperones at the event.

Backpacks are Not Permitted

Due to space constrictions related to crowd size, backpacks are not allowed into the venue. All non-essential backpacks and containers (i.e. health-related) must be left at school or on the bus.

Food & Drink

Outside food and drink is not allowed to be brought into CSUB athletics events (except for water bottles, those are permitted). Concessions vendors will be present, but be prepared for long lines. Any items purchased on site may be brought inside the venue, but this does not include items from other campus restaurants, such as Starbucks, Panda Express, etc.. Make sure group members bring cash or cards for payment. Groups may also choose to bring their own food and drink to campus (home-packed lunches, school lunches, etc.). Boxes and coolers may be stored/placed outside of the facility and unloaded during the group's initial drop off (ideally). Most groups that opt to bring their own food and drink consume it prior to entering the game. There is ample space available on campus for your group to spread out, relax, and eat prior to entry. FYI: A water fountain with bottle fill mechanism is present in the Icardo Center lobby, but there is no water fountain available at the Main Soccer Field.

Bus/Van Parking, Drop Off, & Pick Up
Bus and van parking will be provided, free of cost. A large portion of Lot I, which is directly adjacent to the venue, will be blocked off for exclusive use by Education Day transportation vehicles. Mandatory drop off and pick up routes will be communicated in advance. Enter campus from the south side at the intersection of Camino Media and Roadrunner Drive. This intersection is located directly behind the Edwards Cinemas.

What time should we arrive?
In general, groups should try to arrive as early as possible (within reason). For games starting at 11:00am, groups are encouraged to arrive between 9:00am-10:00am, but no earlier than 8:30am. For games starting at 10:00am, groups are encouraged to arrive between 8:30am-9:30am, but no earlier than 8:00am. There will be a lot of schools unloading and/or attempting to enter at the same time, so it is important to give your group flexibility in timing. We understand some groups traveling farther distances may not be able to arrive quite that early. Even if your group arrives past the official start time of the event, that is OK and you may enter as soon as you get here.

Entering the Venue & Communicating Headcount
When you are ready to enter, approach the front gates of the venue with your group. CSUB will have several chaperones available to help guide you to your seat location. Each group will have a designated spot in the stands and should not seat themselves. Your group will NOT need actual tickets, stickers, or wristbands to enter (no "items" required to show attendants). Instead, we ask that one of your group leaders be ready to communicate your final, exact headcount when asked and that your group be book-ended by adult chaperones. The number communicated should not be an estimation, but a literal headcount.

Leaving Early (Please Don't!)
We encourage all groups to stay for the duration of the game, but realize many need to leave early due to travel distance, bus schedules, or school dismissal requirements. For groups that wish to leave early, we hope you'll stay as long as possible before departing, as special giveaways and activities are often conducted at halftime or during the latter stages of the game. But it's OK, we understand!

Are campus tours available?
Unfortunately not. Due to the logistical issues involved with orchestrating campus tours for so many large groups simultaneously, it is simply too large of an undertaking to offer tours at our Education Day events. Instead, we will focus on adding campus and education-related content to the scripted programming and entertainment during the event (jumbotron, etc.). If your group requires a campus tour or you strongly prefer one, we encourage you to arrive early to do a self-guided tour. We may be able to provide materials, such as a route, maps, info, etc.

Will our group receive free t-shirts?

Education Days may or may not include free t-shirts for groups. In the past, select Education Days have included a free t-shirt as part of the experience. If an Education Day includes t-shirts, groups will be notified in advance and we will gather sizing from your group. If so, due to the nature of having to order shirts well in advance, there is a good chance that some members of your group will not receive the exact size RSVP’d for (but we will do our best). In the future, we'd love to provide t-shirts at all our Education Days, but budget, staffing, and supply chain issues must be taken into consideration.
