What different ways can I organize and pay for my group's outing?

Groups may be organized and paid for in several ways, but most groups fall into three categories - assist groups, traditional groups, or consignment groups. See below for more details.

How does an assist group work?
This is the most common type of group. The assist program takes the ticket purchasing and ticket distribution roles away from the group leader and puts it directly into the hands of the individuals attending. While planning and communication from the group leader remains vital, this method reduces their overall responsibility. Once an event has been selected, CSUB will develop a private webpage where group members will be able to make individual purchases at the group discount. The group must reach 10+ ticket, or the group leader will be invoiced for the remaining difference.

How does a
 traditional group work?
In this method, almost all aspects of the outing are funneled through one or more group leaders. The group leaders spearhead all planning and communication for the group and are ultimately responsible for purchasing and distributing all tickets. Often times this arrangement involves taking RSVPs. Regarding payment, some group leaders prefer using organizational funds to pay for the tickets, while other group leaders prefers to collect money from all the attendees; sometimes it's a combination of both.

Can I do both - part traditional and part assist? (a "hybrid group")
Yes! Often times group leaders will want to purchase a number of tickets using personal or organizational funds, but would still like to invite other individuals within their personal, professional, or organizational network. In this case, we can set up assist group access for you to share in addition to the portion of tickets you will be directly purchasing. Example: A youth sports coach purchasing 10 tickets for team members and coaches, but sharing the discount in their group texts/emails for parents, family members, and friends to purchase on their own to attend.

How does a consignment group work?
This type of arrangement involves CSUB issuing tickets to a group leader in advance, with their intent to sell tickets directly to their members and collect payment. The sales process is typically done at several organizational functions in the days and weeks leading up to the selected CSUB event. The group leader must also return all unsold tickets to CSUB and pay the balance due on the tickets that were sold, preferably before the event takes place. Generally speaking, the group leader usually chooses to deposit the proceeds into an organizational bank account, then pays the balance due using an organizational credit/debit card or check.

Are there any fundraising opportunities?
Yes. Group leaders often use the consignment group model in order to turn their group outing into a fundraiser. Simply follow the description above, but instead of selling each ticket at the group rate CSUB will bill you for, sell the ticket for an increased price and keep the difference. Groups must get permission from the CSUB Athletics Ticket Office prior to creating a fundraiser out of their group outing.

Is there any way I can use my group tickets towards other events if they go unused?
Yes, conditionally. We have a group leader benefit called "Group Ticket Flex" which allows you to roll over any previously unused tickets to another event, as long as you also purchase another group of 10+ to the event. The flex would be ticket-for-ticket if the group rate is the same for the two events. However, if the group rate differs, we'd determine the amount of available flex tickets by doing a bit of math. For a more detailed explanation, contact the ticket office.

What is a group fan experience and what events are they available at?
Group fan experiences are special activities groups may participate in while attending their selected event. These experiences often involve interaction between group members and CSUB student-athletes and/or gaining access to the venue's playing surface for activities or performances. For information on what group fan experiences are available, click here.
