CSUB Athletics Strategic Plan
Transforming Lives: Vision 2025

On Mar. 19, 2018, the CSU Bakersfield Athletics Department proudly announced the development and initiation of its “Strategic Plan” known as “Transforming Lives: Vision 2025”. With the announcement, CSUB Athletics Director Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried revealed his vision for CSUB Athletics and his hopes for the growth it will continue to experience.

"Our Strategic Plan for Roadrunner Athletics provides us a road map for the next several years,” Siegfried said. “Our focus will continue to be on our ‘Championship Pillars’ of promoting academic excellence, providing an outstanding student-athlete experience, pursuing competitive success, and engaging the community.”

In order to accomplish the goals established by the Championship Pillars, the CSUB Athletics Department will put a strategic emphasis on its top three priorities: TEAM, PLAYBOOK, and `RUNNER NATION.

Siegfried continued on to explain how the Strategic Plan develops his vision for the department’s future: “This working document will expand on our pillars and place an emphasis on investing in the growth and collective success of our staff and coaches (TEAM), creating processes with intentional actions that produce results (PLAYBOOK), and by developing best-in-class service for our student-athletes, alumni, and fans (`RUNNER NATION)."

Three working groups, made up of CSUB Athletics staff and coaches, have been created in each of the above areas. Each of these groups have been tasked with developing annual and long-term goals under each initiative in order to maximize success.

Given the ever-changing climate of collegiate athletics, the Strategic Plan will have the flexibility to change and will be, as Siegfried said, a working document. Through a joint collaboration of CSUB’s administration, staff, coaches, student-athletes and supporters, the Athletics Department has created a plan that supports California State University, Bakersfield’s vision to “advance the intellectual and personal development of its students,” and to emphasize “scholarship, diversity, service, global awareness and life-long learning.”

With the Plan’s vision set to guide CSUB Athletics through the year 2025, the `Runners will be able to use it as they finish out the next two years as a part of the Western Athletic Conference. Siegfried is confident that the vision will help guide CSUB to increase its WAC Championship total from six to at least ten prior to exiting the WAC.

CSUB Athletics announced that it had accepted an invitational to join the Big West Conference on Nov. 27, 2017. The Plan will also serve as a measuring stick to help the `Runners as they make their transition to new league and begin to vie for Big West Championships.

While the full Strategic Plan can be viewed and downloaded at this link, below are just a few of the outlined objectives that will help CSUB accomplish each of its goals.

TEAM
- Objective 1: Foster a culture of support and family.
- Objective 4: Embrace diversity, inclusion and equity.

PLAYBOOK
- Objective 3: Enforce accountability measures.
- Objective 5: Assure meaningful touch points with supporters and student-athletes.

`RUNNER NATION
- Objective 1: Provide a quality academic and competitive environment for student-athletes.
- Objective 5: Create an environment that fosters lifelong affinity and support.

Deliberate actions toward these priorities will lead to achieving the four pillars, all of which will result in realizing the Strategic Plan’s Mission: CSUB Athletics Develops Champions For Life. In order to maximize the effect of its efforts, the Athletics Department will establish both annual and long-term goals for all of the initiatives listed in its Plan.
