2006: Matt Schumm came into his own as a junior and was impressive through the season…wrestled to a 21-13 record which tied for the third-most wins on the team…won seven of his final nine matches…went 2-2 at the California Open and had the same record at the Las Vegas Invitational…missed becoming a placewinner at the Reno Tournament of Champions by one place…was impressive at Reno, though, after losing to eventual champion Daniel Friskhorn of Oklahoma State in the first round by a narrow 4-3 margin…won four straight matches in the consolation bracket to nearly earn placewinner honors…went 3-2 at the Midlands and was one match short of being a placewinner…was 4-3 in a stretch of seven duals in January…won the California Collegiate Invitational and edged teammate Jeremy Doyle 7-6 in the championship match…placed sixth at the Pac-10 Champion-ships to earn placewinner honors at the conference championships for the first time.

2005: Schumm wrestled to a 10-10 record with a pin and two major decisions…opened the season 5-3…just missed placing at the Fullerton Open after dropping a 3-2 decision…picked up first collegiate pin at the Reno Tournament of Champions  against Wil Gerber of Central Missouri.

2004: Schumm did not see much action in a crowded 141-pound weight class…placed fifth at the Aggie Open with a record of 5-2, losing both matches by one point…picked up two major decisions including a 13-1 win in his opening match at the California Collegiate Open.

2003: Matt Schumm redshirted at CSUB in 2003.

CENTENNIAL HS: Schumm was a four-year varsity wrestler at Centennial HS, earning All-Mountain View League honors three consecutive years…the Huskies were CIF Southern Section Division III champions in 2000 and 2001…earned the team’s Outstanding Wrestler award in 2002…he holds the Centennial record for most takedowns and wins in a season.

PERSONAL: Major is business administration at CSUB…parents are Mike and Debbie Schumm.
