Three `Runners Post CSUB Top 10 Marks in Season Opener

MALIBU, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield cross country team opened the 2026 season with a solid showing at Pepperdine's Waves Invitational. The Roadrunners raced the 4k course while posting three times in the CSUB Top 10 records.

Key Facts
  • Cal State Bakersfield finished third of five teams behind Pepperdine and USC.
  • The `Runners were led by sophomore Ava Leisenfelder, who set CSUB's freshman 4k record at this same meet a year ago.
How it Happened

Leisenfelder crossed the finish line first for the `Runners and ninth overall. Her time of 14:35.3 is a new PR and ranks her third in CSUB history. Coming in right behind Leisenfelder was freshman Hannah Isaa, who posted a mark of 15:03.3, good enough to tie for fifth on the Bakersfield depth chart.

The final `Runner who posted a time worthy of the Top 10 list was Morgan McKenna (15:47, 10th). Another pair of CSUB newcomers Yureimei Vasquez (15:52) and Mia Leisenfelder (15:53) would have been on the list were it not for their teammates bumping them to 11th and 12th, respectively.

What's Next?

The `Runners will have about a month to prepare for their next race:
  • CSUB at Master's Invitational
    • Oct. 3
    • Santa Clarita, CA
