• Power forward Ronald Jessamy ranks Top 45 in the country with 48 blocks on the season and has a chance to break the CSUB single-season record in the category (60 blocks). 
• Second-leading scorer CJ Hardy returned after nearly a month off and made a quick impact on the court. 
• Redshirt freshman Mike Price Jr. has stepped up recently, averaging 13.3 points per game over the last 8 contests.

CSUB 65, UC Riverside 93 

• The `Runners fell behind UC Riverside (9-19, 4-12 BW) early and never recovered in Thursday’s loss in Riverside. 
  • The Highlanders led 43-23 at halftime and led by as many as 28 points. 
• Riverside was deadly from deep, shooting 60% from three-point range. 
• Dailin Smith led the `Runners with 15 points, 11 of which came from free throws. 
• CJ Hardy returned to the court after missing over a month because of injury, adding 4 points and 4 assists in his return. 

CSUB 80, Cal State Fullerton 88 

• The `Runners held a 1-point, halftime lead over Cal State Fullerton (15-14, 10-7 BW), but the visiting Titans sprinted away midway through the second period and held on for a road win. 
• CSUB once again struggled to defend the three-pointer, allowing Fullerton to hit 16-of-33 (48.5%) from behind the arc. 
• Dailin Smith led the `Runners again, tallying 21 points. 
• CJ Hardy heated up on offense, recording 15 points. 
• Tom Mark scored 17 points to go with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. 
• Bentley Waller posted 13 points off the bench, a season high for the redshirt freshman. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball came up short in a pair of tight battles, falling by a combined 7 points in the Big West contests. 
• The Roadrunners will need to continue to find ways to earn wins in order to stay in contention for the Big Championship in March with just four games remaining in the regular season. 
• Marley Langi has been on a hot streak recently, averaging 20 points per game across her last four contests.

CSUB 58, UC Riverside 62 

• Cal State Bakersfield started off slow against UC Riverside (9-17, 7-9 BW) but an extended surge by the `Runners kept the game close before the Highlanders held on for a narrow victory. 
  • UCR won the first quarter 21-9, but CSUB outscored its visitor over the next 3 quarters, keeping the game excitingly close. 
• Chrishawn Coleman and Marley Langi led Bakersfield with 15 and 14 points, respectively. 
• Tena Ikidi added 5 points, 22 rebounds, and 5 blocks. 
  • Ikidi tied the CSUB record for most rebounds in a single game (Batabe Zempare, vs. San Jose State, 11/22/15).  
• Hawai’i shot 11-for-15 (73.3%) from the free throw line while Bakersfield made 13-of-19 (68.4%). 

CSUB 57, Cal State Fullerton 60 

• Cal State Bakersfield started out hot against one of the top teams in The Big West, Cal State Fullerton (16-11, 12-5 BW), but the Titans battled back to ultimately steal the win in Bakersfield. 
  • CSUB won the first quarter 25-14, but Fullerton outscored its host over the next 3 quarters, making the game come down to the wires. 
  • The Titans hit a pair of free throws with 16 seconds remaining in the game for a 59-57 lead and Bakersfield’s two opportunities at a go-ahead or game-tying shot fell short. 
• Chrishawn Coleman led the `Runners with 20 points, her 11th-game this season with 20+ points. 
• Tena Ikidi chipped in 6 points and 13 rebounds, and 5 blocks 
  • Ikidi averaged 17.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game across the pair of contests. 
• Morgan Hawkins tallied 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in the close loss. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield track and field teams tackled opened the 2026 outdoor season at the Sunbird Invitational in Fresno, Calif. 
• Hosted by Fresno Pacific University, both of CSUB’s men’s and women’s programs competed outdoors for the first time since last May. 
• In the season opener, CSUB had four individuals place first place in their respective events. 
  • Javier Toro (hammer throw), Jacob Yagers (1,500m), Ethan Lavina (triple jump), and Skye Odom (triple jump) returned home with wins. 

Sunbird Invitational – Feb. 20-21 

• On Friday afternoon, Javier Toro earned the first win for the Roadrunners in the outdoor season. Toro threw a 61.31m in the men’s hammer throw.  
  • Daniel Hartman placed third overall with a huge personal best of over 30 feet in the event. Hartman marked in a 50.17m (164-07).  
• On Saturday, Jacob Yagers eased his way across the finish line in the men’s 1,500m with a time of 3:53.10. He was the only `Runner to win an event on the track.  
• In the triple jump, both Ethan Lavina and Skye Odom showed out. 
  • Lavina took the win on the men’s side with a mark of 14.32m (46-11.75), while Odom was victorious on the women’s side with a jump of 11.35m (37-03).  
• Newcomer Francisco Felix Jr. ran the 3,000m and placed second overall with a time of 8:32.35. In his first time in the blue and gold, he ran the second fastest time in program history for the event. 
  • Teammate Jacob Yagers was close behind with a time of 8:34.45. 
• Rain Gomez enjoyed a great day with two personal bests. 
  • Gomez ran the tenth fastest time in program history in the 1,500m crossing the finish line in 4:43.50. She also now holds the 13th best time in CSUB history in the 3,000m with a time of 10:30.31.  
• Mackenzie Okonta placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.47m (4-09.75).  
• Jaden Cutliff ran the 400mH in 56.76, finishing third overall.  
• Freshman Annie Amneus finished with the 18th best hammer throw for CSUB history after throwing a 41.43m (135-11).  
• Ishmael Nungaray ran a 9:16.53 in the 3,000m. His time is the fifth best in program history. 
• Bakersfield is back in action on Friday & Saturday, Mar. 6-7 for the Beach Opener hosted by Long Beach State. 

• Cal State Bakersfield’s baseball team closed out its season-opening homestand before hitting the road for the first time this year. 
• Prior to the start of the season, Head Coach Jordon Banfield promised fans that his squad would play an exciting brand of baseball and they delivered this past weekend. 
  • The Roadrunners have averaged almost 8 runs per game across the first two weeks of play and have stolen a total of 18 bases, that latter of which ranks #25 in the country 
• CSUB’s pitchers tallied 34 strikeouts this past week, an average of exactly 1 strikeout per inning pitched.

CSUB vs. Utah Tech 

• The Roadrunners suffered a 14-4 loss to a strong Utah Tech squad that improved to 5-0 with the win and is currently 7-1 on the season. 
• The visiting Trailblazers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but CSUB answered back to make the score 4-3 at the end of the third. 
  • A 5-run sixth inning sealed the victory for Utah Tech. 
• Bakersfield got a 2-for-4 performance with 2 RBI out of freshman Devon Wilkes while five other `Runners each tallied one hit. 
• CSUB reliever Alex Navarrete pitched 2.1 innings with three strikeouts while giving up three runs, all unearned. 

CSUB at Kleberg Classic 

• Feb. 20-22 
• Played at Whataburger Field home of the Houston Astros’ double-A affiliate. 
• The Roadrunners opened the weekend with a 7-4 victory over tournament host Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 
• On Saturday against ACC foe Pitt, the Panthers outmuscled CSUB on the way to a 14-0 victory. 
• The `Runners responded on Sunday, closing out the weekend in Texas with a 15-2, run-rule win in a non-conference clash with fellow Big West member Long Beach State. 
• Bakersfield’s offense proved to have a number of dangerous weapons during the Classic: 
  • Outfielder Jacob May hit .556 (5-for-9) with a triple, 2 home runs, and 2 RBI on the weekend. 
  • First baseman Evan Cloyd batted .455 (5-for-11) with a .571 on-base percentage while driving in a pair of runs of his own. 
  • Brendan Thompson (5) and Kanoa Morisaki (4) led the `Runners in RBI on the weekend. 
• In his second start with the `Runners, Roman Bracamonte opened Sunday’s game with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk in the outing. 
  • Reliver Ethan Myers picked up the win in that game, throwing two scoreless innings of his own. 
• Bakersfield native Jacob Gutierrez earned the win on Friday night against TAMUCC, striking out 6 Islanders across 3.1 innings of work out of the bullpen. 

• The Roadrunner softball team continued the 2026 season by going 1-3 at the Lyman Classic in St. Georgei, Utah. 
• The 2026 edition of the CSUB softball team sees 9 returners welcome in 14 newcomers under the leadership of Interim Head Coach Alyssa Graham. 
• Freshman Kayla Whaley continues to hit well, going 7-for-13 (.538) on the weekend. 
  • The outfielder leads the `Runners on the season with a .412 batting average.

CSUB at Lyman Classic 

• CSUB hit very well as a team throughout the four-game tournament, posting a team batting average of .330. A few offensive leaders: 
  • Kayla Whaley hit .538 (7-for-13) with 3 runs, an RBI, and 2 walks 
  • Aariana Harrison batted .417 (5-for-12) with a team-high 4 RBI to go with 2 runs and a walk 
  • Alexia Castro and Mari Narvaiz each drove in 3 runs 
• `Runner pitcher Cedes Saldana took the bulk of the work, pitching 16.1 innings across 3 appearances including 2 complete games 
• Bakersfield started the weekend off slow, taking run-rule losses against both Utah Tech and Weber State. 
• The `Runners rallied Saturday evening on ESPN+ with a great battle against the tournament host before ultimately falling 10-8. 
• CSUB closed out the Classic well with a 7-4 win over Weber State as Saldana each her second win of the season with another complete game. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team closed out its regular season with a road dual and an open tournament just up the road. 
• Seventh-year Head Coach Luke Smith saw a group of younger `Runners perform well at the California Open while his veteran leaders scored points in the dual against California Baptist. 
• CSUB now begins final preparations for the postseason Pac-12 Championships, set for Mar. 6 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

CSUB 12, California Baptist 30 

• In their final dual of the season, the Roadrunners found themselves trailing the Lancers earlier and were unable to close the gap. 
  • CBU won 4 of the first 5 bouts, taking an 18-3 lead in the process. 
• In the second bout of the night, Guillermo Escobedo (174) got Bakersfield on the board with a 4-1 decision over Mason Espinoza. 
• After the intermission, Richard Castro-Sandoval (125) started a string of good `Runner performances, earning a 4-1 decision over Cooper Shore. 
• True freshman RJ Jones followed that up with the most exciting bout of the evening. Jones trailed #31 Remy Murillo 4-0 in the third period before taking the lead and ultimately forcing overtime. Murillo earned the takedown in extra time to hand Jones a 9-6 loss. 
• 141 pounder Santino Sanchez dominated Damien Alvarez, leading 14-0 before converting a fall for 6 points. 

CSUB at California Open 

• Cal State Bakersfield hosted a last chance tournament to allowing regional wrestlers to get some matches in before postseason competition began. 
• A trio of `Runners showed out at the tournament hosted in Tulare, Calif. 
  • 165: Coen Quintana posted a 3-0 record, finishing first in his weight class. 
  • 149: Mikah Labuanan went 2-1, including a win against a foe from Cal Poly. The true freshman is now 9-5 on the season. 
  • 285: Xander Firm, another true freshman, posted a 2-2 record on the day including a fall. 

• The Roadrunner beach volleyball team served up the start of the 2026 season with a trip to Florida for the FSU Unconquered Invitational 
• Cal State Bakersfield went toe-to-toe with a strong slate of opponents, including two ranked teams and a third receiving votes in the AVCA Top 20 poll. 
• Three of CSUB’s five matches ended in 3-2 final scores, marking a busy and tightly-contested weekend of action.

• The Roadrunners tested themselves in a tough schedule on Opening Weekend:

  • CSUB 3, Southeastern Louisiana 2 
  • CSUB 2, #18 Georgia State 3 
• Cal State Bakersfield’s best pairing came at the third flight where sisters Vivi Kaelin and Kendall Kaelin, playing together collegiately for the first time since Kendall transferred from Hawai’i at the end of last year. 
  • The Kaelin sisters posted a 4-1 record on the weekend with their only loss coming against #8 Florida State. 
• CSUB’s 4s pair of Ella Ensign and Katey Milne went 3-2, with all 3 of their wins coming in 3-set battles.
