Toro Earns Back-To-Back CSC Academic All-District Honors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Javier Toro of the Cal State Bakersfield Track and Field program earned his second straight College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors for the second straight year, as announced today by the organization.

The San Joaquin, Calif. native, finished the semester with a 3.57 GPA as a business administration major. The senior ranked 29th in the NCAA West Region for the hammer throw and qualified for his second straight NCAA Division I West First Round meet. Toro ended his second finishing 36th in the hammer throw with a mark of 200'0" (60.96m).

At the Big West Track and Field Championships, Toro finished 6th overall in the HT after throwing a 194'2" (59.19). In April, Toro put himself third on the CSUB all-time list after a stellar performance at the Titan Friday Night Lights. He placed first overall with a mark of 212'10" (64.88m). This Spring, Toro also landed 10th on the all-time list for the shot put after a second-place finish at the Mark Conover Classic. He threw a 57'2" (17.42m). He capped off the season by finishing in the top three on 14 different occasions for his events. Toro will return to CSUB for his final year of eligibility.

Academic All-District and All-America

The criteria included those athletes with a top-50 individual performance in their region and a GPA above 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale). Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically to qualify. A graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average as both an undergraduate and grad student unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don't have an established graduate GPA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in the coming weeks.
