BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Maalia Cherry earned her third Big West Freshman of the Week honors after her performance this weekend versus UC Santa Barbara. This is Cherry's fourth Big West award of her career, previously earning Player and Freshman of the Week on February 17th and then the Big West Freshman of the Week the following week.

Over the weekend Cherry slashed .571/.700/1.143 versus UC Santa Barbara in front of the home crowd. The Freshman had four hits, two of those being a double and a home run, she drove in six runs and drew three walks. She now has nine home runs on the year which has her ranked first in the Big West and 60th in the nation, and has 27 RBI which is good for third in the conference. On the year she is batting .356 with 31 hits and slugging percentage of .701. Cherry has claimed three of the six Freshman of the Week awards, and Bakersfield now has earned seven weekly honors this year alone after receiving none since joining the Big West in 2021.
