• Cal State Bakersfield traveled to Corvallis, Ore. on Sunday, Feb. 2, for the team's first Pac-12 dual of the season.
• CSUB has returned to national recognition with four `Runners recently recognized by FloWrestling in the national rankings at some point this season: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Gerrit Nijenhuis (174), AJ Ferrari (197), and Jake Andrews (32).
• FloWrestling ranked Cal State Bakersfield #25 as a team coming into this weekend while InterMat had the Roadrunners at #27.
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #13 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling, which also ranks him #3 in the 197-pound weight class. InterMat and The Open Mat agree on the #3 ranking.
  • Ferrari is a perfect 12-0 on the season and has won 32-straight collegiate matches.
• Bakersfield native Jake Andrews is now 17-2 on the season. The `Runner heavyweight won the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week honor on Nov. 26 and he is nationally ranked as high as #18 (The Open Mat).

CSUB at #29 Oregon State

• The Roadrunners were shorthanded in Corvallis, Ore. as #3 AJ Ferrari was unavailable to compete in the 197-pound bout due to injury.
• Despite the setback, as well as an early deficit, CSUB put together a solid effort against the Beavers in the 25-16 loss.
  • One year ago, Oregon State defeated CSUB 48-0 in a dual in Bakersfield, showing drastic improvement in a short amount of time from the `Runners.
• Richard Castro-Sandoval (125) got the match off to a strong start for the `Runners with a 2-1 decision over his OSU counterpart.
• Oregon State went on to win the next four bouts, capped off by a pin at 157, taking a 17-3 lead on the match.
• CSUB got back in the win column when Guillermo Escobedo (165) earned a sudden-victory takedown for a 4-1 win over Steele Starren.
• Gerrit Nijenhuis (184) tallied a fall of his own, pinning TJ McDonnell in just 98 seconds.
• Heavyweight Jake Andrews posted a 14-3 major decision over Charles Hastriter to close out the match.
• The `Runners will be home for the remainder of February, hosting four events in a busy month.

Ron Mann Classic – Friday, Jan. 31

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s indoor track and field team headed back to Flagstaff, Ariz. for the final indoor meet of the year.
• The Roadrunners had a historic season with multiple CSUB all-time list performances and four school records.
• Two of the records came this weekend at the Ron Mann Classic.
• In the final indoor meet of their young careers, Makiah Parker and Skye Odom put on a show.
• Representing the blue and gold, the two broke school records in their events and cemented themselves in the Bakersfield record books.
• Skye Odom rebroke her very own record in the triple jump that she accomplished just two weeks prior. The freshman placed third overall with a jump of 11.93m.
• Odom also performed well in the long jump, with a mark of 5.33m she holds the #2 spot on the CSUB all-time list.
• On the track, Makiah Parker placed fifth overall in the 200m with a new school record of 25.19. Parker also holds the indoor 60m school record. Over the weekend she rebroke her record with a time of 7.55 while also making it into the final for the event.
• Senior Julie Johnson capped off her indoor career with a new #3 spot on the CSUB all-time list in the 200m. Earlier this season, Johnson rebroke her record in the 300m.
• Emilia Mandela crushed it in the 60mH with a time of 8.69, she is #2 on Bakersfield’s all-time list in the event.
• The `Runners have their eyes set for the outdoor season and they take time off to train. Bakersfield will be back in action on Feb. 22 for the Sunbird Invitational.

• The McGhee brothers scored 53 combined points versus Cal Poly
• The Roadrunners had three double digit scorers in both games this week (Marvin McGhee III, Marvin McGhee IV, and Jemel Jones versus Cal Poly; Corey Stephenson, Jemel Jones, and Jaden Alexander versus CSUN)

CSUB 81, Cal Poly 90

• Bakersfield dropped their first game versus Cal Poly after 12 straights wins over the Mustangs
• Marvin McGhee III scored 29 points in 36 minutes of action; Marvin McGhee IV scored 14 on 50% shooting
• The Mustangs came out hot after their win over Long Beach State scoring 45 first half points and shooting 53% from the field for the game

CSUB 62, CSUN 88

• CSUB matched up with CSUN again, just a little under a month since they last month
• CSUN got off to quick start similarly to their first meeting, outscoring the Roadrunners by 22 points in the first half
  • The `Runners struggled from the field in the first half scoring just five buckets, but were able to get to the free throw line 14 times
• In the opening of the second half, Bakersfield cut the lead down to as much as 18 points with just under 9 minutes to play, but the Matadors would eventually extend their lead to 30 points
• CSUN also outrebounded CSUB 37-34

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball team entered the second half of conference play this weekend, facing off against Cal Poly and CSUN. Ary Dizon continued her dominant blocking performance, leading the Big West in both total blocks and blocks per set, while also ranking 14th nationally in blocks and 13th in blocks per set.

CSUB 51, Cal Poly 42

• Bakersfield traveled to Cal Poly for their weekend matchup but fell 51-42.
• Despite 11 points from Melissa Secchiaroli and 8 from Ary Dizon, the Roadrunners struggled offensively, shooting just 33.3% from the field and 21.4% from three-point range.
• Cal Poly took advantage of the cold spell, finishing strong with 20 points in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

CSUB 51, CSUN 65

• Bakersfield also lost to CSUN 65-51.
• Ary Dizon led the team with 15 points, and Melissa Secchiaroli added 7.
  • The `Runners scored 22 in the paint.
• Despite shooting 37.5% from the field, the Roadrunners struggled with turnovers.
• The game remained close early, but CSUN’s strong defense and 82.4% free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter helped them pull away.
• With the loss, Bakersfield dropped to 1-20 overall and 1-10 in Big West play.
