CSUB Posts Best Tournament of Spring Season in Arizona

PHOENIX - The Cal State Bakersfield golf team wrapped up the third tournament of the Spring season on Wednesday, posting its best tournament score of the second half of the season. Behind the steady play of junior Sarah Mutai (226, 75-76-75), the Roadrunners concluded the GCU Invitational with 921 strokes, a nine-stroke improvement over the team's best round of the Spring so far.

The `Runners tackled a tough field of 13 teams, including tournament host and winner GCU (857). CSUB finished 21 strokes behind fellow Big West member UC Riverside on the team leaderboard.

Bakersfield enjoyed a solid outing from freshman Anna Kehrer (228) and junior Iris Han (230), each of whom came back to the clubhouse in two-stroke succession behind Mutai. Nicole Whipple and Emilee Canepa rounded out CSUB's scoring team with each of those `Runners posting their best scores in the final round on Wednesday. Freshman Kailee McKee represented CSUB as an individual golfer this weekend in Phoenix.

The `Runners will return to action Mar. 7-9 at the annual Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah, in St. George, Utah. Check in at GoRunners.com/Live for ways to follow the action.
