CSUB 96, La Sierra 47

• The Roadrunners were back home first time in about a month
  • Last time home they beat Fresno State (Nov. 16)
• Bakersfield continued their unbeaten streak of now four games at home
• Marvin McGhee III reset two records on Saturday, scoring 36 points and making 9 three-point field goals while helping the `Runners to victory
  • He reset former teammate Kaleb Higgins’ scoring record that was set in March of 2024 versus UC Riverside in the Big West Championship (35 points)
  • McGhee III also reset Zack Grasmick’s three-point record of eight made in a single game, also set versus UC Riverside, in December of 2007
• Jaden Alexander scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the victory as well
• Bakersfield forced La Sierra to shoot 27% from the field and outrebounded them 51-30

• Bakersfield dropped a pair of road games this week as they continue their preseason play ahead of conference matchups.
• Despite the losses, there were notable individual performances for the Roadrunners.
• Cheyenne Forney was a standout against Fresno State, recording the first double-double of her collegiate career with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
• Alli Dioli remains among the top performers in the Big West for three-pointers, ranking fourth in the conference with 1.89 three-pointers per game.
• Ary Dizon continues to excel defensively, ranking second in the Big West and 26th nationally for total blocks (22), as well as third in blocks per game (2.20), ranking 27th nationwide.

CSUB 39, Arizona 76

• The Roadrunners faced a tough challenge in their midweek game against Big 12 opponent Arizona.
• Marley Langi was the standout performer for Bakersfield, posting a season-high 16 points and six rebounds while shooting an impressive 66.7% from beyond the arc.
• Bakersfield’s best basketball came in the second quarter, but they struggled to maintain momentum while scoring 16 points in the period. Arizona quickly regained control, ultimately securing a 76-39 victory.
• CSUB did contribute 22 points off the bench, but it wasn't enough to keep up with Arizona's dominant performance.

CSUB 46, Fresno State 65

• Bakersfield traveled to Fresno State for another pre-conference contest, hoping to extend their recent success against the Bulldogs.
• Over the past two years, Bakersfield had successfully defended the Valley, defeating Fresno State both times. However, this time, the Roadrunners got off to a slow start, trailing 40-24 at halftime.
• Despite a stronger defensive effort in the second half, where they held Fresno State to just 25 points, Bakersfield couldn’t overcome the deficit.
• The Roadrunners managed to score 30 points off the bench, but it wasn’t enough, and they fell to the Bulldogs 65-46.
• Forney's career-high in scoring and double-double led the way.
• Ary Dizon added eight points and nine rebounds in the loss.

• The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team continued the 2024-25 season by hosting its first home dual of the year.
• CSUB has returned to national recognition with four `Runners recently recognized by FloWrestling in the national rankings at some point this season: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Gerrit Nijenhuis (174), AJ Ferrari (197), and Jake Andrews (32).
• FloWrestling also ranked Cal State Bakersfield #20 as a team coming into this weekend's action.
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #13 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling, which also ranks him #4 in the 197-pound weight class. InterMat ranked Ferrari #1 at 197. 
• Bakersfield native Jake Andrews started his season 6-0, won Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, and came into this week ranked #31 in the heavyweight class.

CSUB vs. Michigan State

• Cal State Bakersfield pulled out a thrilling, home victory over Big Ten foe Michigan State, 21-14 on Sunday afternoon at the Icardo Center.
• The dual between the Roadrunners and the Spartans came down to the final match with CSUB leading 18-14. 165-pounder Guillermo Escobedo outlasted his MSU counterpart for an overtime victory, sealing the match for Bakersfield.
• CSUB started the match out strong, building up an 18-5 lead thanks to wins from Gerrit Nijenhuis (184), #1 AJ Ferrari (197), #31 Jake Andrews (HWT), Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), and Santino Sanchez (133).
• The Spartans began to come back, pulling within four points heading into the final bout between Escobedo and Jay Nivison. With the score tied 1-1 heading into overtime, Escobedo squeaked out a 2-1 victory, giving Bakersfield the win.
• CSUB (1-2) is coming off a pair of rebuilding seasons over which the `Runners posted a 1-23 record. Sunday’s win over Michigan State is Bakersfield’s first in nearly 700 days, but Head Coach Luke Smith’s recruiting this offseason is providing huge dividends.
• Sunday’s victory will spark momentum for the `Runners, who will travel to Norman, Okla. next weekend for a quad dual hosted by Oklahoma. CSUB will tackle the Sooners as well as Chattanooga and Southeast Community College on Dec. 21st.
