• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team wrapped up its Big West conference schedule this weekend, facing Long Beach State and UC San Diego on the road. Despite tough losses, several players showcased strong performances as the Roadrunners closed out the regular season.
• Learden Lee had an outstanding weekend, contributing offensively and defensively for the Roadrunners. The freshman posted a .345 hitting percentage, averaging 2.55 kills per set, while also leading the team with 1.33 blocks per set for the weekend.
• Sydney Dunning continues to lead the Big West in service aces per set, with a remarkable 0.50, while her teammate Viviana Samaniego ranks fourth overall and second in conference matches. In addition, Samia Bhakta boasts the top hitting percentage in the Big West during league play, at an impressive .416. As a team, Bakersfield finished the regular season ranked first in the Big West for service aces per set, averaging 1.86.

CSUB 0 Long Beach State 3

• Bakersfield fought hard but ultimately fell to Long Beach State in a 3-0 loss, the second meeting between the two teams this season. Dunning led the Roadrunners with eight kills, while Lee contributed five kills and three blocks. Kat Georgiadis played a key defensive role, posting 12 digs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome one of the top teams in the league.

CSUB 0 UC San Diego 3

• In their final match of the season, the Roadrunners took on UC San Diego in a challenging 3-0 defeat. Despite leading in service aces (6 to 2), Bakersfield couldn’t secure the win. Dunning and Lee each recorded nine kills, while freshman Viviana Samaniego capped her season with 17 kills.
• While the weekend results were tough, Bakersfield's strong individual performances and overall team statistics underscore a solid season as the Roadrunners look to build on their successes in the future.

FGCU 74, CSUB 54

• Bakersfield made the trip to Fort Myers, Florida for the FGCU MTE and faced the host of the tournament in game one.
• CSUB came out slow in game one, dropping the first of three, shooting 34% from the field.
  • Bakersfield shot 42.86% in the second half
• Marvin McGhee III led the `Runners in scoring with 15 points

FIU 76, CSUB 73, OT

• In game two Bakersfield played Florida International
• CSUB finished the first half up 12 points (38-26)
• The second half Bakersfield struggled from the field, shooting 36%
• With the game coming down to the wire, FIU hit a three pointer to force overtime
• Three Rodrunners finished in double digits
  • Jemel Jones (18 PTS, 3 REB), Marvin McGhee III (15 PTS, 6 REB), and Fidelis Okereke (14 PTS, 6 REB)

CSUB 80, Northeastern 68

• In the final game of the FGCU MTE, Bakersfield faced Northeastern, who was 2-0 in the tournament.
• Four Roadrunners finished in double figures, with Corey Stephenson leading the way (21 PTS)
  • Marvin McGhee III (12 PTS), Jemel Jones (10 PTS), and Marvin McGhee IV (10 PTS)
• Bakersfield had 15 offensive rebounds that led to 17 second chance points helping them to a 68-60 victory over the Huskies.
• The Huskies were solid in the second half, tying the game with 4:53 left in the game
  • Stephenson scored the three buckets to give the `Runners a six-point lead.
  • Jones and Kadar Waller knocked down two free throws each to put the Huskies away and secure the victory.

• Fresh off their road trip to Utah, the Cal State Bakersfield women’s basketball team returned to the Icardo Center for a home game against the undefeated 5-0 San Diego State Aztecs. Ary Dizon stood out for the Roadrunners, averaging 1.8 blocked shots per game, ranking fourth in the Big West before league play. Meanwhile, seventh-year senior Taylor Caldwell continues to make an impact on both ends of the court, ranking third in the conference in steals with 2.5 per game.

CSUB 42, San Diego State 86

• Bakersfield came out strong against SDSU, scoring first to set the tone for the game. The Roadrunners started with confidence, but the Aztecs quickly shut down their offense, seizing control and limiting Bakersfield's scoring opportunities.
• Despite the early setback, the Roadrunners bounced back in the second period, putting up 17 points and keeping the game competitive.
• A major contribution came from Bakersfield's bench, which scored 25 points to help keep the pressure on the undefeated Aztecs. The bench players provided key moments of offense and defense, helping to sustain the team's effort throughout the game.
• In the end, Bakersfield couldn’t overcome SDSU’s depth and execution. Despite their strong fight, the Roadrunners fell short. While the result wasn’t in their favor, the game showcased Bakersfield’s resilience and ability to compete at a high level.

• The Cal State Bakersfield swim and dive teams traveled to St. George, Utah for their mid-season tune-up for the Big West Championships in February.
• The Roadrunners enjoyed standout performances from several student-athletes, including a group of senior women's leaders and a trio of men's rookies.
• Next up, a pair of `Runners, Vili Sivec and Arthur Amaral Schneider, will head to the US Open in Greensboro, N.C., Dec. 4-7, to compete against some of the best athletes in the country.

CSUB at Utah Tech Invite

• Senior Jessica Franco had what CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen described as "the meet of her career". The distance freestyler put up career-best times in the 200, 1000, 1650, and 500, the latter race of which she won by a 3-second margin.
• Three more veteran women paced the `Runners in Lorena Jerebic, Josiane Hill, and Danielle Albright.
  • Jerebic placed fourth overall out of 45 women in the 200 fly before winning the B-final in the 100 fly.
  • Hill earned big points in the B-finals of both the 100 fly and 100 back.
  • Albright posted an 11th-place finish in the 200 breast to go with a B-final placement in the 100 breast.
• On the men's side, sophomore Matthew Gramlich and a trio of freshmen — Tommy Henstein, Lucas McKee, and Carlos Lattanzi — all impressed Hansen: "Those three guys showed us the future is bright after a great mid-season meet."
  • Gramlich placed sixth overall in the 1650 free, won the 500 free B-final, and posted another B-final finish in the 200 free.
  • Henstein 12th overall in the 200 back and 13th in the 100 back.
  • McKee won the 200 fly B-final.
  • Lattanzi placed 10th in the 400 IM and also earned a B-final placement in the 200 breast.
• Hansen also highlighted CSUB's star swimmer, Vili Sivec, who proved that he can still swim fast despite not being rested or shaved. The Croatian junior finished in the top five in both the 100 fly and 100 free.

• The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team continued the 2024-25 season by hosting the 13th Annual Roadrunner Open.
• The Roadrunners enjoyed five placers, including a heavyweight title from Bakersfield native Jake Andrews.
• CSUB has returned to national recognition with four `Runners recently recognized by FloWrestling in the national rankings: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Gerrit Nijenhuis (174), AJ Ferrari (197) and Jake Andrews (32).
• FloWrestling also ranked Cal State Bakersfield #25 as a team coming into this weekend's action.
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #13 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling, which also ranks him #4 in the 197-pound weight class. InterMat ranked Ferrari #1 at 197. 

CSUB vs. Roadrunner Open

• Cal State Bakersfield enjoyed five Roadrunners advancing to the semifinals with undefeated records.
• Three `Runners made it to the championship bouts of their respective weight classes while two others earned spots in the placers (Top 6).
• Andrews, a Bakersfield native and Frontier High School graduate, went 3-0 on the way to the heavyweight title. In the championship bout, No. 33 Andrews defeated No. 28 Trevor Tinker (Cal Poly) with an 8-1 decision.
  • Andrews' thoughts post-match: "Having the home crowd here and being able to celebrate with your friends and family after you win is just amazing, it's indescribable...My confidence is through the roof right now."
