BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield's women's cross country team have released their schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. The Roadrunners open their season on Sept. 2 at the Seawolf Invitational hosted by Sonoma State.  

This season will have two 5k course meets for the cross country team. The Seawolf Invite will be the first 5k course for the `Runners. The team placed sixth overall at the Woodward Park course last season.  

There are two regular season 6k course meets for the team; the first one will take place on Sept. 9 in Malibu, Calif. at the Waves Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University. The `Runners will take a two-week break and then head down south to Santa Clarita, Calif. for the Master's Invitational on Sept. 23. The meet will be the last 5k course for the team. 

Another two weeks of preparation for the team as they will take part in their final regular season meet at the fast-paced Baylands Park course. The Bronco Challenge meet is set to take place on Oct. 14 in Sunnyvale, Calif. hosted by Santa Clara University.  

Championship season begins on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Big West Championships in San Luis Obispo, Calif.  

The NCAA West Regionals meet will be held at Sacramento, Calif. on Friday, Nov. 10. 

"This is a very good schedule for our program. I am looking forward to the start of the season" said Director of Track & Field, Cross Country coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "We have a handful of newcomers from local high schools."  

The team's top returner is Helena Valentic who became the third fastest CSUB athlete in the 6k at last year's cross country championship meet. The Croatia native also ranks #2 for the 3,000-meter steeplechase, #10 for the 1,500-meters, and #13 for the 5,000-meters on the track.  

All finishers at the Big West Championship meet returns to the 2023 season: Neyda Martinez, Ysabel Gamon, Alicia Muralles, Ariyana Guzman, and Amber Sosa.
