`Runners Outhit Gauchos; Drop Game 1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield softball team and UC Santa Barbara played a tight game Friday afternoon. Karissa Munsey put the `Runners in front with a solo home run in the second inning after drawing 10 pitches in the at bat. Brianna Sanchez pitched a shutout heading into the seventh inning, but a two-out rally by the Gauchos in the top of the seventh was the difference maker in this game.

Quotes from Head Coach Daniel Sperl
  • "The team competed well today. We played hard and played with focus. We did a lot of things right, but UCSB is a good team too and we didn't put them away when we had our chances."
  • "We allowed them to work ahead in enough counts to turn over the lineup one too many times."
  • "At the plate we had a lot of great at bats, hitting the ball well and challenging them offensively, but it didn't string together for us today in a way that led to more run."
