Bakersfield Defeats UTEP, CUI in Home Openers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield beach volleyball team earned a pair of victories during its home openers on Friday at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center. Battling the rain all day, the Roadrunners swept UTEP in the opening match before taking down a strong Concordia squad, 4-1, to close the day.

  • Five of Bakersfield's six pairings went 2-0 on the day as CSUB improved to a 5-1 record on the year.
  • The `Runner duo of Pearl Moore and Megan Gilbert cruised to a pair of impressive victories, besting their opponents by an average score of 21 to 12.5.
  • Senior Hana Makonova now has 31 career wins in the sand. She moved past Brooke Boiseau (2018-22) for sixth on CSUB's career wins list.
  • Fellow senior Hayley McCluskey now ranks eighth in CSUB's all-time history with 27 career beach wins, tying with two-time All-Big West honoree Emily Hansen (2018-21).
