Game Recap: Softball |

Roadrunners Outmatched Against GCU

Phoenix, AZ – The Cal State Bakersfield softball team went 1 – 5 over the weekend in New Mexico and Texas. For the Roadrunners, generating any offense was hard to come by tonight. With GCU's pair of wins tonight, they improved to 16 – 1 on the season.

CSUB 0, Grand Canyon 8
  • GCU broke through early, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • A walk followed by a home run extended the Lopes' lead to 6-0 at the start of the bottom of the third before a third run would come across later in the frame.
  • Shaylene Fuimaono nearly broke up Hailey Hudson's no-hitter in the top of the fifth, but her deep fly ball was tracked down on the warning track.

CSUB 0, Grand Canyon 8
  • The GCU offense started Game 2 a bit slower as the `Runners were able to hold them to two runs in the first two innings.
  • Singles and the long ball generated enough offense for GCU to put the run rule in action.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Karissa Munsey was able to break up the Lopes' no-hit bid with a sharp ground ball between the third baseman and shortstop.
Quotes from Head Coach Daniel Sperl
  • "Grand Canyon is a good team off to a tremendous start, but today's effort just wasn't good enough. We were easy to play against tonight. A walk followed by a home run extended the Lopes' lead to 6-0 at the start of the bottom of the third before a third run would come across later in the frame."
  • "We have to get back to work - and continue to find ways to maximize our effort and consistency."
