CSUB 65, Fresno State 63 – Saturday, November 18

• For the second straight year, the Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team downed cross-valley rivals Fresno State in a wire-to-wire battle that came down to the last nine seconds when the Roadrunners finally pulled in front with a go-ahead make from Shaunae Brown, the woman who was the Bulldogs' bane last season.
  • With this victory, the `Runners have now cut the McCall-era series against Fresno State to 4-5.
  • Bakersfield gathered its first win of the 2023-24 in spectacular fashion, putting together a 39-27 second half, and 20-18 fourth quarter, to narrowly edge out the Bulldogs who led most of the game.
• Sophia Tougas finally broke out of her early season slump and put up eight different single-game career-high numbers with 22 points from 9-of-16 field goals. She was followed by Jordan Olivares who put together her second game of double-digit points this season.
• The late game hero, Shaunae Brown, came up clutch with five of her seven points coming in the last 32 seconds to tie the game before giving Bakersfield the outright victory with her go-ahead layup with just nine seconds remaining.
• Grace Hunter was a passing machine, dishing out 7 assists to help the five starters score 89% of the evening's points.
• The `Runners now prepare for a tournament in New York before continuing on the road with a turnaround trip to Omaha, Nebraska.

CSUB 77, Saint Katherine 44 – Thursday, November 16

• After two straight tough Pac-12 opponents, Cal State Bakersfield men's basketball got back in the win column at home against the Saint Katherine Firebirds, as the Roadrunners shot 44% from the field in a 77-44 domination.
• Kaleb Higgins displayed another consistent effort, scoring 13 points in the game, while three other Roadrunners also reached double digits in the game: Marvin McGhee III, Tom Mark, and Dalph Panopio.
• The improved greatly on the first few games from the charity stripe, shooting 20-of-28 free throws. Despite this, Bakersfield greatly struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 1-for-15. During the post-game press conference, Head Coach Rod Barnes took accountability and emphasized needing to be much better at the long-range opportunities.
• Eleven different players scored for the `Runners, and ten played at least 11 minutes on the court. Fully in control under the rim and off the boards, Bakersfield racked up 44 rebounds and posted 42 points in the paint.
• The `Runners are now set to participate in the SoCal Challenge in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

Roadrunner Open – Sunday, November 19 

• In another relatively successful Roadrunner Open, the Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team (430 match points) came up just should of beating Oregon State for the second tournament this season, placing third as a team. Cal Baptist came away with a definitive win, amassing 558 match points, while having five wrestlers take first place victories in their respective open weight classes.
• Heavyweight `Runner Jake Andrews highlighted the day for Bakersfield as he fought his way through to the championship match in the Open 285.
  • Andrews received a bye during the Championship Round 1, automatically advancing to the Quarterfinals.
  • Won by shutout 2-0 decision against Vanguard's Roman Torres.
  • Defeated Menlo College's Antonio Dacosta, #4 CCC and #21 NAIA, in a 3-1 decision.
  • Defended home mat with a 4-2 decision over Cal Poly's Cole Jackson.
• Three other `Runners fought to podium placements, with Luis Ramos and Richie Castro-Sandoval both earning second place while Guillermo Escobedo placed third. Before falling in the 1st Place Match, Castro-Sandoval had strung together four straight victories.
• Bakersfield now takes the rest of November for a reprieve before traveling to Las Vegas for the annual Cliff Keen Invitational.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s volleyball team wrapped up the 2023 season going 1-1 on the weekend against Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine. Bakersfield closed the season with celebrating Head Coach Giovana Melo for her ten years of service during the match against Cal State Fullerton. During the UC Irvine game, the `Runners recognized two of its impactful seniors, Ava Palm and Sophia Bertotti Metoyer. 
• Breklyn Pulling continues to be an essential piece for the Roadrunners. This weekend she posted 17 kills in total, averaging 2.13 per set. In the game against UC Irvine, Pulling raked up the majority of her kills with 11 in total (2.75). She also had 10 blocks for the weekend, averaging 1.25 per set. 
• In her final weekend as a `Runner, Ava Palm had 31 kills for the weekend, averaging 3.88 per set. In the game against Cal State Fullerton, Ava posted a single-game season-high of 19 kills. As a dominant offensive player, Palm has always manages to double dip, excelling as a defensive player as well, posting 1.63 digs per set (13 total). In the UC Irvine game alone, she had 11 digs in total, with 2.75 per set.

  CSUB 3, Cal State Fullerton 1 – Friday, November 17

• Bakersfield was coming off a 2-0 last weekend heading into the match against Cal State Fullerton. 
• Starting off the match, CSUB lost the first set 25-21. After this, the `Runners had a wave of confidence going on for the next three sets, outplaying the Titans 3-1.  
• In set two, Bakersfield came from behind (13-17) to go on a five-point run to tie the match up at 17. In the end, it was a team effort to pull out the win, going 25-20 in set two. Set three, Bakersfield dominated Cal State Fullerton, with a score ending in 25-13. 
• Set two shifted momentum towards the `Runners, where they would continue to have the upper hand, fighting for every point until set four where they won 25-18. 

CSUB 1, UC Irvine 3– Saturday, November 18

• The `Runners wrapped up the season with their final match against UC Irvine. Coming off a three-game win streak, Bakersfield was ready to fight for their final match. 
• Bakersfield took set one, 25-18, being the better team in the match having 15 team kills to Irvine’s 10.
• The last three set were all close and fought for, UC Irvine taking the last three but not without a fight from the roadrunners. Bakersfield offensively out swung Irvine with 54 kills to 42, but CSUB posted more errors.
