Regular-Season Finale on Tap for CSUB Beach VB

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With one weekend remaining in the regular season, the CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team is putting the finishing touches on preparing for postseason play. The Roadrunners are headed to Long Beach, Calif. on Saturday, Apr. 23, for a pair of matches against No. 12 Long Beach State and Cal State LA.

"This weekend is a great opportunity to play good competition and prepare ourselves mentally for the Big West Tournament," said Cesar Benatti, who is in his sixth season as CSUB's Head Coach. "We'll play Long Beach State that is a possible opponent at the tournament and is always a great challenge for us. We have been having good games against them and we are looking forward to getting better."

Benatti also said he values the chance to see his team play against a non-Big West Conference opponent: "Cal State LA is a good team that can make us better. We have been talking about consistency, and heading to these two games, we are focusing on that in practice and we hope to play with consistency in these games."

Bakersfield (10-14) is enjoying the most successful season in its 10-year history with the team and pairs single-season wins records already bested. Benatti is adamant that his team's potential is even higher than what the `Runners have achieved, so CSUB will keep grinding with the biggest tournament of the season on tap for next week.

Before then, Bakersfield will get a tough test against fellow Big West member Long Beach State. The Beach is ranked 12th in the AVCA Top 20 poll and boasts a 15-12 record on the season. The `Runners met LBSU earlier this season at the Big West Challenge when the Beach earned a 4-1 victory. CSUB's top pairing of Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat earned the lone win for the `Runners in that contest.

Cal State LA comes into the week with a 3-8 record as a member of NCAA Division II. CSUB and CSULA will be meeting for the fifth time in their all-time series, but it will be just their first match since 2019. The `Runners have won all four prior contests against the Golden Eagles.

CSUB and LBSU will square off at 1:30 p.m. (PT) on Saturday before Bakersfield's 3:30 p.m. match against Cal State LA. Final results will be shared on the @CSUB_Beach Instagram account and a full recap will be posted here on GoRunners.com at the end of the day of competition.
